XCS Screw Centrifugal Pumps : Case Study
Pump: XCS Screw Centrifugal Pump
Industry: Chemical Processing - Mononitrobenzene (MNB) Plant
Application: Benzene Stripper Reboiler Pump(350 F)
PROBLEM: For the expansion a MNB plant in Baytown, Texas the consultant required a pump design that would provide high flow at low head for recycling of a mononitrobenzene (MNB) solution through a heat exchanger.
Not only did the pump have to handle the difficult hydraulic conditions but it also had to be suitable for the high product temperature (350 F) of the MNB.
SOLUTION : After comparing the Hayward Gordon XCS screw centrifugal pump with a competitors axial flow propeller pump the XCS pump was the preferred choice.
The XCS pump was less expensive, had superior hydraulic efficiencies, lower NPSH requirements and a smaller foot print. To address the products high temperature the pump was offered in a centerline mounted configuration.
RESULTS : Hayward Gordon supplied an XCS-10C unit in 316ss/CD4MCu construction with John Crane 9T double mech. seal and 20HP motor.
The pump has operated successfully since 1997 and both the end user and consultant extremely satisfied with its performance.
